Introducing Grow4FoodRX

enBloom is excited to launch our latest program in April 2023 thanks to funding from the Big Green Dow! Grow4FoodRX is an immersive, seed-to-market learning experience to train a legion of urban and suburban gardeners to grow local food, contributing to sustainable and resilient communities. Training content will be taught by enBloom’s very own member-partner and resident grower, Reci !

Through this learning experience, enBloom will increase the number of urban/suburban farms and growers with special focus on lowering barriers to entry for socially disadvantaged and emerging urban gardeners. With more accessible guidance and 100% of tools and materials needed to grow food, local growers can thrive. In this pilot year, we will be learning about typical challenges that backyard in our zone 7 experience, a variety of ways to address those challenges and monitor the yields of the gardens. The produce grown will go to our growers or collected and used at live cooking demonstrations throughout the growing season to turn the hyper-local foods in to nutrient dense juices, smoothies, and other tasting foods for the public to sample and learn to prepare at home.

** We are growing food to nourish our families and our communities. Therefore, we would like allow time for our Growers to learn with us and vise versa. The beds are on loan for terms of one or two years. Think of it as ‘borrow to own’! After the third season you can keep the bed at no cost — we hope that by now you are hooked and will continue to grow for enBloom and your community but you decide. As Growers strengthen their garden skills and establish commitment to the program, they will have the opportunity to decide if they want to gain ownership over their bed or return it to enBloom. Read more in the FAQ.

Beginning in May, regular training videos and blogs will be posted to help our growers set up, care for, troubleshoot and harvest all throughout our growing season, which in Maryland is roughly early May until late October. Co-hort members will receive an email when a new video is released so that they can take action in their home garden. Even if you aren’t a member of this year’s co-hort or living in Maryland, we welcome you to still follow along on this growing experience with us and share your stories. These video will be available below as they are released (subject to change in content and order of release).
